The Hmong American Association of Colorado (HMAAC) is proud to present Colorado’s first-ever Hmong Culture Workshop—a free, full-day educational experience designed to teach and explore traditional Hmong cultural practices. Whether attendees are Hmong, educators, students, community partners, or simply curious to learn more about Hmong culture, everyone is welcome.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

Xibfwb Txawj Teeb Yaj

Txawj Teeb Bee Yang is a faculty member in the Social Work Education Department at California State University, Fresno, where he teaches social work, cultural diversity, oppression, Hmong culture, and Hmong bilingual mental health. As a respected Hmong cultural expert, he has presented internationally on Hmong culture, history, healthcare, child abuse, and human trafficking.

Xibfwb Nyiaj Neeb Lauj

Nhia Neng Lor was always interested in Hmong traditions, particularly funeral practices. In 2000 he started this pursuit and graduated in 2007. Today, he is an active practitioner helping his community where requested.

Lorie Yaj

Lorie Yang learned how to sew at 15 in the Ban Vi Nai Refugee Camp. She has designed, sewn, and altered her own patterns and clothing for over 48 years. In 2025 she finally retired, but still wants to pass this skill on to future generations.

Trace Yaj

Trace Yang is a passionate advocate for the preservation and understanding of Hmong culture and traditions. As the first Hmong woman to graduate in Traditional Hmong Wedding Practices, she developed a deep appreciation for her cultural heritage. Since 2017, she has expanded her knowledge into Hmong Shamanic rituals and spiritual traditions.
