This year’s Colorado Hmong New Year Celebration marks a historic milestone — 50 years of Hmong legacy in the United States — honoring the strength, resilience, and enduring spirit of the Hmong people. Hailing from the mountainous regions of Southeast Asia, the Hmong played a vital role during the Vietnam War as Special Guerrilla Units (SGUs) who fought alongside the U.S. CIA in the Secret War in Laos, while many Hmong women served courageously as nurses and caretakers, tending to the wounded and supporting their families amidst great hardship.

Following the war, countless Hmong families faced political persecution and fled their homeland in search of safety. Many resettled around the world — with a large population finding a new home in the United States — bringing with them a rich cultural heritage rooted in family, tradition, and perseverance. The Colorado Hmong New Year continues to honor that legacy: a vibrant celebration of history, culture, and community that connects generations and welcomes new beginnings.

The Hmong New Year is more than a celebration — it’s a time to give thanks, reflect on the past year, and welcome new beginnings. Through vibrant music and dance, colorful traditional attire, delicious food, and cultural performances, this annual gathering unites generations while sharing Hmong heritage with the broader Colorado community.

Join us in celebrating this special 50-year legacy and the 42nd Annual Colorado Hmong New Year as we honor our past, celebrate our present, and look ahead to a bright future together.
